DSSC   futsal

Welcome to Futsal

Youth futsal (also spelled "fútbol sala") is a fast-paced indoor version of soccer that emphasizes technical skill, quick decision-making, and small-team tactics. Here's a comprehensive overview covering everything from team structure to gameplay rules and development benefits.
What Is Youth Futsal?

Futsal is a 5-a-side version of soccer played on a hard court surface, usually indoors, with a smaller, low-bounce ball. It's governed internationally by FIFA and AMF rules, with small variations depending on the country or league.
It’s especially popular for youth development, and many professional players—including Messi, Neymar, and Ronaldo—credit futsal for developing their footwork and ball control.
Team Structure

Players on the Court:
  • 5 players per team are on the court at a time:
    • 1 goalkeeper
    • 4 field players (defenders, midfielders, attackers depending on rotation)

Substitutes:
  • Usually 7–9 total players per team (5 starters + 2–4 substitutes)
  • Substitutions are unlimited and "on-the-fly" (like hockey)
  • Players can sub in and out as needed without notifying the referee (except for goalkeeper changes)

Common Roster Size:
  • Most youth futsal teams have 8–10 players total to ensure:
    • Enough subs for rest/rotation
    • Balanced playing time
    • Active participation

Development Focus:
  • Ball control in tight spaces
  • Quick decision-making
  • Passing and movement
  • 1v1 attacking and defending
  • Speed of play and transition
  • Confidence under pressure
Smaller team size = more touches on the ball = faster development.

Future Plans

As Futsal is rapidly gaining popularity in our area, we are working towards a league partnership with other clubs in the Pinellas/Hillsborough area to create a season game schedule. Additionally, we plan to take our developed teams to participate in local tournaments with the ultimate goal to represent at the World Futsal Championship that takes place in Orlando around July every year.
